Abel Ruddachew food blog – for all things about food!

A food blog dedicated to exploring the flavours the world has to offer along with cooking techniques and all the latest kit to up your cooking game!

Hi, my name is Abel and I have always been a big foodie! One of the earliest food memories I have was when I was about 4 years old, whilst living in Rome, Italy, being introduced to the wide variety of cheeses from France that my father had brought back from a trip. Whilst my two other siblings were not impressed with the strong smells, let alone the flavours, I was hooked on exploring new foods from a very young age.

A bit about me

I was born in the United Kingdom in the early 90’s but left at a very young age to live in Rome, Italy. Having spent many years in Italy my family and I moved to live in Kenya, Africa. Given my Ethiopian heritage, east African cuisine was not unfamiliar – or so I thought.

Exploring African cuisine

Eating tender nyama choma with sukuma wiki and attempting to make ugali was a real eye-opener in how different cultures, societies and people express themselves through food. That’s how I got and have stayed hooked.

Refining my cooking skills in Paris

Several years later we packed our things and moved again to live in Paris, France. That’s where I spent my formative years and started to hone my cooking skills whilst learning the delicacy of French-style cooking.

Once I finished school I decided to return to the UK where I have lived since and where I met my beautiful wife Jo whilst studying. Jo and I are both passionate about food and are on a lifelong challenge of exploring every cuisine from around the world (we are up to 40 countries so far)

Why start a food blog?

I truly believe that food is one of the main focal points of all cultures and a way of bringing people together.

I have always enjoyed eating and cooking food, but over the last 10 years, I have dedicated a lot of time, resources and energy to develop and perfect my palette, and cooking techniques and broaden my culinary horizons. I would love to be able to share my experiences with you here and hopefully learn from you too!

This blog is aimed at imparting the knowledge and experience I have gained but to also take you along on my life-long journey of exploring every cuisine the planet has to offer.

Till the next meal,
